About the Walk

The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is the largest and most powerful event of its kind in the country, and OCC’s annual fundraising event. It is the only walk in Canada to direct all attention and funds to improving outcomes and transforming the lives of people living with and at risk of ovarian cancer.

Held annually during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September, this family-friendly event raises vital funds to power ovarian cancer research, provide education and resources, and fuel advocacy efforts across Canada.

There are so many ways to participate in this annual event. Participants can register to attend an in-person Walk event in their community, or register as a virtual participant, walking a route of their own choosing. Together, we can change the face of this disease for good. Are you with us?

Why walk?

3,100 Canadians are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. Half of them won’t live to see another five years. It’s time to make ovarian cancer unignorable. Walk with us to demand action and deliver change for women and families affected by this disease.

All proceeds support OCC, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming this disease and eradicating it from the future. When you register and fundraise to OCC’s Walk of Hope, you are a part of a movement, changing the future of this disease.

To date, the Walk has raised over $33 million to transform lives. Improved outcomes are possible finally. But we need you to keep the momentum going.

Why fundraise?

Everyone born with ovaries is at risk for ovarian cancer. It is the most fatal women’s cancer, and the reality is that every 5 hours, we lose someone we love to ovarian cancer in Canada. You have the power to deliver change and transform lives by fundraising for the Walk.

These are some of the initiatives powered by your fundraising:

  • We are galvanizing the ovarian cancer research community by working collaboratively to re-imagine the traditional approach to medical research.
  • We are actively building research capacity, unlocking insights into rarer forms of disease, addressing urgent needs, and changing the landscape of available treatment options. OCC’s research has led to new discoveries that will improve overall survival and quality of life.
  • We are ensuring that those at high risk for ovarian cancer are educated and have the self-advocacy tools to take preventative action to stop the disease before it starts.
  • We are addressing urgent needs and filling gaps in care to ensure that those experiencing ovarian cancer have the tools to advocate for their own health.
  • We are providing year-round education programs and important lifelines to ensure those with ovarian cancer are supported and have the knowledge to make informed decisions.

Rooted in the community

The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope was founded by Peggy Truscott in 2002. Peggy wanted to create a place where families and individuals living with ovarian cancer could connect with one another, surrounded by a community of support. With truckloads of sunflowers and her loved ones in tow, Peggy started a movement.
