Welcome to Nadia's personal page!
Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer and another 2,800 will be diagnosed this year. I have been one of those women since 2014. It’s been 5 years since I was diagnosed with late stage Ovarian cancer and 2 years since my reoccurrence. The statistics say that “17 to 20 percent will survive five years”, so that means I have 20% chance, it’s a chance I want to take!
The $10 million OCC received last year is the first from the Government and will to be distributed over a 5 year period, so 2 million a year. That’s a drop in the bucket for what is needed for this disease which hasn’t had any treatment advances in 50 years.
Every one of these women has people who love her. Just being there to support and honour her means everything. That’s why I’m walking.
The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease. A future with a diagnostic tool for detecting Ovarian Cancer at the beginning stages, but by bringing awareness to Ovarian Cancer and for treatment that may prolong life and improve the quality of life as well.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease. Funds will be used to fund vital research, spur advocacy efforts, and provide support so that we can help women with, or at risk of, ovarian cancer live fuller, better, longer lives.
Please provide your support by giving what you can or raising what you can. Better yet, if you want to hear my story live, come out and join me and walk beside me. Together we can make a difference.
