Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer and another 2,800 will be diagnosed this year. I was one of these women.
My diagnosis came three and a half months after a variety of tests had been completed, but none of them could confirm cancer. Blood tests, ultra-sounds, and a MRI were all completed. I sat in the waiting rooms of 3 different doctors, and all told me the same thing, "There is not definite test that can confirm ovarian cancer." I was told that my C-125 blood test levels were elevated, my ultra-sound had foggy areas, and the MRI showed large cysts, that could be tumors. Ultimately, I had to have surgery, and biopsies completed before cancer was confirmed. My cancer was "caught" early. My cancer was a low grade cancer. My last chemotherapy was on June 6, 2017. My prognosis is good, and I am feeling better each day; but I am still waiting to hear, “you’re cancer free.” Please contribute to MELISSA'S LADYBALLERS or join me on September 7th, 2019 in Ajax when I, and my team, walk for hope.
Most women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are already in Stage 3, and the cancer has spread elsewhere in her abdomen. Each of these women is central to a family. Every one of these women has people who love her. Just being there to support and honour her means everything. That’s why I’m participating with thousands of others at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope. I will be walking in Ajax.
The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease.
This year’s goal is to raise $2.1 million. Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness, and fund vital research so that we can change the future for the women we love.
Please provide your support by giving generously. Better yet, if you are up for a challenge this September, come out and join me. Together we can make a difference.
