Welcome to Melodie's personal page!
In 2014, I was told I carry the BRCA 1&2 gene mutations so my doctor recommended I do preventative surgeries to reduce my chances of developing cancer. In 2014, I had a preventative full hysterectomy and in 2016, I had a preventative bilateral mastectomy. In 2018, I received the news I had hoped I’d not hear until I was much, much older....I had stage 3 ovarian cancer! After 7 cycles of chemotherapy I received the news that there was no evidence of disease! Unfortunately, my cancer is very aggressive and less than 3 months later I was having symptoms again and my worst fear was confirmed....the cancer was back! Another 5 rounds of chemo and I am currently on a new drug called Lynparza and stable.
The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease. Funds will be used to fund vital research, spur advocacy efforts, and provide support so that we can help women with, or at risk of, ovarian cancer live fuller, better, longer lives.
Please provide your support by giving generously. Better yet, if you are up for a challenge this September, come out and join me. Together we can make a difference.
