Welcome to My Personal Page
Before my diagnosis with ovarian cancer last year, I didn’t know much about the disease. I didn’t know it is the deadliest gynaecologic cancer, I didn’t know what the early signs and symptoms were, or how easily they can be mistaken for something more benign. I didn’t know a Pap test cannot detect it, or that in fact,
there is no screening test that can detect it at an early stage.
One major abdominal surgery to remove a 4lb tumour and six months of extremely challenging chemotherapy later and I know more than I ever wanted to, including how very fortunate and unusual it is that my ovarian cancer was caught at an early stage.
I want this to be the case for everyone diagnosed with this disease until we can eradicate it altogether. I want effective screening, widespread education on the early warning signs and less brutal, more effective treatments for ovarian cancer.
That’s why I’m joining the thousands of other participants at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease. Funds will be used to support vital research, spur advocacy efforts, and provide support so that we can help women with, or at risk of, ovarian cancer live fuller, better, longer lives.
Please give generously. This year’s Walk will happen in communities large and small, all across Canada. It is a virtual event and you can join me! Together we can make a difference.
