Oct 2012 I got the shock of my life. 

 It was a day I will never forget, I can remember it clearly.I received a call in work and was asked to drop by the Dr's office after work.I never thought that she was going to tell me I had Stage 3 High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer. The way it sounded I didn't think I would be around for very long.. I am Thankful and blessed that almost 10 years later I am still here.Thanks to the fantastic Oncologist I had and the team that helped me through my treatment at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook ,a Wonderful Caring Family and friends that gave me lot's of support ..I was clear for almost 4 years and then it happened again. I had a recurrance. My numbers went up in Jan.2017 . My Dr didn't wait around and once again I had surgery in July 2017 and they got it all ..I live to fight another day !!

I am walking because ovarian cancer affects all kinds of Families,it also touches communities.So many people come out each year in support of the Walk of Hope. It’s certainly touched my life and my families. It needs to be talked about. I never realised before just how many women are affected by this cancer.This Cancer affects Young and Old  it has no mercy. They call it  "THE SILENT KILLER" and it lives up to it's name. If I am able to get the message to even one person about the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer and it helps save one life, then everything I have gone through has been worth it. We have to make women  understand and listen to their bodies. Don't assume it is just your usual  pains and aches.  This cancer even fools  Dr's.. So many times it is diagnosed as a UTI......Mine was at first.. 2 months later I was still having problems and  had my hubby not insisted on me going to emergency it would have been more than a stage 3 by the time they found it.. If you have constant bloating and feel full all the time , check it out. Do not be put off.  Insist !!!! That was mainly the only symptom I had  other than needing the bathroom all the time and vomiting once.. The bleeding was so slight I didn't see it. It  showed up when they checked my urine sample . Even then they said it was a UTI, The fever was slight. The pain I had, felt really bad, but again I put it down to the bloating.. These are symptoms that most of us women have been getting since we  reached maturity. It is one reason why we neglect them. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you . Don't  think that it is nothing and it will go away .. So what if you check it out and it turns out to be nothing !!!! At least you are aware. Now I am not saying run to the emerg everytime you get a pain . I don't want to scare you. Just pay attention !!! 

This walk is special to me because it honours women and families touched by Ovarian cancer and celebrates the hope that I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease. I walk  for every woman who has suffered, every woman  who has passed away and every woman that may get it in the future. For the sake of our Daughters, Granddaughters, Mothers, Sisters,Grandmothers or friends please help us to find a cure.

Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness and fund vital research.
