In October 2016, my wife Karen was diagnosed with a double diagnosis of stage 1 ovarian and uterine (ednometrial) cancer. We were very lucky that it was caught early. Karen endured 6 rounds of chemo, and 5 and 1/2 weeks of radiation. Alas, she did not gain any super powers from this.

During Karen's recovery we were extremely fortunate in the support provided by family, friends and co-workers. My co-workers provided an abundance of food, as they were deeply concerned that Karen would suffer from scurvy on my cooking (hint: if you crush up a vitamin C pill and then sprinkle it on the kraft dinner and hot dogs, scurvy avoided!).

Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer and another 2,800 will be diagnosed this year.

Each of these women is central to a family, whether they are mothers, daughters, sisters, spouses, or just friends and co-workers. Every one of these women has people who love her. 

Just being there to support and honor her means everything. That’s why I’m participating with thousands of others at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope.

The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease.

Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness, and fund vital research so that we can change the future for the women we love.
