Together, we can overcome ovarian cancer.
Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer and another 2,800 will be diagnosed this year.
Each of these women is central to a family. Every one of these women has people who love her. Just being there to support and honour her means everything. That’s why I’m participating with thousands of others at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope.
The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease. Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease.
Advancing ovarian cancer research is vital to Ovarian Cancer Canada’s vision of seeing more women with, or at risk of, this disease live fuller, better, longer lives. This is why Ovarian Cancer Canada led a call to action for first-ever federal funding for ovarian cancer research. In 2019 Ovarian Cancer Canada successfully secured that investment of $10 million over a five-year period, and is now leading a new, nation-wide research initiative, named OvCAN, to advance progress against this disease. The initiative includes three core areas of focus:
1. Developing better experimental research models that more closely emulate the disease (to aid in the testing of new treatments);
2. Identifying and testing new treatments in preclinical trials; and
3. Facilitating the successful translation of novel therapies into new clinical trials based on different ovarian cancer subtypes that individual women experience.
In fact, this investment continues to grow with donations and funding commitments from generous supporters and partners across Canada. Funds raised from the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope will not only fuel and build on research efforts, but it will also help to spur more advocacy efforts, and enable support programs and services to women with, or at risk of, this disease.
Will you join me as I step out to help save lives? Please provide your support by giving generously. Together, we can make a difference!
Thank you for considering the virtual Walk this year!
