Welcome to My Personal Page

I was very fortunate to enjoy the friendship of Margie Gass for approximately two years when she lived at the end of my road in Lower LaHave, Nova Scotia. Margie was a person who taught others how to love life! As Mary Oliver writes every morning Margie 'went out into the world to be dazzled'.
But Margie was living up on the hill overlooking the LaHave River’s entry to the Atlantic while she dealt with ovarian cancer. In her last years she sought all the help she could find, she continued fostering her family and friendships, she biked, she danced, she raised 100,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research, she lived life to the fullest possible.
Margie died May 11, 2015.
I now live in Ottawa where Margie once lived. I keep running into old friends of hers and have learned about ‘Margie’s Gang’ who take part in the annual Walk for Hope fundraiser for research of Ovarian Cancer.
Something Margie and I shared was a love of Lower LaHave. As I will be in Lower LaHave on Sept. 11, the date of this year’s walk and remembering her love of the place, I plan to walk virtually with the Ottawa group from Riverport Community Centre to Oxner’s Beach on the 11th at 11:00 Atlantic time. Margie’s sister Deb and I will work together on forming a small group.
Please join us if you are interested. Or you may wish to sponsor me.
Below is the message from the Ovarian Cancer society.
Today, thousands of Canadians are living with ovarian cancer and approximately 3,100 will be diagnosed this year. But today - we are paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.
Let’s raise the teal flag and show our support for the women and families affected by ovarian cancer. Together, our fundraising and participation in the Walk will spur advocacy efforts to provide the best possible care, further scientific progress, and ensure that all those diagnosed know that they are not alone.
That’s why I’m joining the thousands of other participants at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope. Precious lives depend on it, and the community deserves it.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming this disease.
Every step and every dollar create a brighter future for those affected by ovarian cancer. Please consider donating to my Walk or register to join me!
Thank you for your support. It means the world to me, and everyone affected by this disease.
