2023 Walk - Ottawa/Gatineau, ON

Margie's Gang

We are walking for Georgia Margaret Gass (Margie) who passed away May 11, 2015. She loved life, her family and friends and the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Despite a career in the foreign service which took her to Europe, Africa and Asia and frequent stays in New York, she remained deeply grounded in Nova Scotia. She was an irresistible friend who kept in touch with a worldwide network. She loved the arts and hooked rugs, painted and made beautiful photographs. She acted and had an incredible dress sense. She was beautiful. Margie was also courageous and she fought back. Together with her friend Evelyne, she organized a fundraiser for ovarian cancer in Halifax which raised $100,000. Margie was a "doer" and enjoyed everything that life had to offer. We are walking in her memory and to honour her desire to help women with ovarian cancer learn earlier that they have the disease and live longer.

Last year, some of us walked once again as a group in Ottawa, while others walked and biked individually and in small groups from Nanaimo to Nova Scotia. Margie's Gang raised over $20,000 in 2022, an all time record!

In 2022, Margie's Gang welcomed a group of new walkers in Lower LaHave, Nova Scotia, where Margie's family has a home and which was a very special place to her, as well as a new group in Toronto organized by Margie's son, Tom.

Whether you walk or donate and wherever you are, we greatly appreciate your support!
