Once again, members of Team Wookie will walk in honour of our beloved Maria Christine Wilkie. As she did from the beginning, Maria continues today to bring us all together.

Here we are, another September, another Walk of Hope, this tradition of gathering, sharing stories, and raising awareness. Thank you all for being such a big part of this. It’s important for many reasons, including helping to better the outcomes and experiences of those diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

There is certainly much to celebrate when it comes to the future of ovarian cancer treatment, much to be hopeful for – more people than ever are becoming aware of ovarian cancer and its symptoms; Immunotherapy and targeted therapy drugs are becoming more common treatment options; research is underway to find a useful screening tool. Still, we have a long way to go. The Walk of Hope is one concrete way to help push this cause forward, to provide the resources and support to gain ground on this disease, inch by inch by inch. Thank you, Team Wookie, for supporting this cause. Together, we can truly make a difference.

Maria, I have learned much from you, my beautiful Snowberry. I will continue to carry that love and wisdom forward, living each day in a way that makes you smile.

As always, I welcome friends, family, colleagues, anyone who wishes to join Team Wookie to celebrate Maria’s luminous spirit. I know each and every one of us can feel the bonfire that is Maria, warming us, guiding us, illuminating the path ahead.
