Betty Anne's Believer

As you know, we’ve been championing our Warrior Queen, Betty Anne Williamson through her journey with Ovarian and Colon Cancer. Her journey has not been one for the weak of heart. “It still amazes me how that big lump could have been growing in my belly! For how long, who knows? As we age, we all spread around that area generally and I’ve always been ‘stout’ to use an old fashioned word. I was one of the lucky few - my Nurse Practitioner noticed something was wrong. I was bleeding at 70 like I was in puberty.” This journey started almost eight years ago, in late fall, Mom noticing a small amount of bleeding...Ovarian cancer is a silent predator, there are very small signs including back ache, bloating and fatigue that if not noticed can become deadly. In the spring of 2016 Mom had surgery for not one but two primaries (colon being the other). She has fought an incredible battle and continues every day. Her advice to everyone is ‘please pay attention to your body and it’s signals’, it may save your life.

Just being there to support and honour her means everything. That’s why this year, we’re participating with thousands of others in person at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope.

Every dollar we raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease. Please feel free to donate to this worthy cause.
