Our Story

2023 Walk - Edmonton, AB

Team Leslie

Team Leslie is walking in memory of Leslie Dobbie Purvis, we hope to spread awareness and keep her memory alive.

Leslie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016. After her diagnosis, she began chemotherapy treatments at the cross-cancer institute and later underwent oophorectomy surgery to remove the remainder of her tumor. During this Leslie continued to work full time and cared for her 4 children and spouse Jean. Leslie went into remission however after about a year her cancer recurred. Leslie returned to treatment and never lost hope. despite undergoing multiple surgeries and receiving chemo almost weekly at times, Leslie never lost her positive attitude and continued to put others before herself.

After a long battle Leslies journey ended in September of 2020. She left the world surrounded by family and loved ones. Leslie touched the hearts of everyone she met and was a true inspiration to many. Today her children proudly carry on her memory and legacy.

Thank you for taking the time to hear Leslie's story and for all your kind donations.

The Walk celebrates the hope we carry with us every day – the hope for a future without this disease.

Every dollar our team raises supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity that champions the health and well-being of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease. Funds will be used to fund vital research, spur advocacy efforts, and provide support so that we can help women with, or at risk of, ovarian cancer live fuller, better, longer lives.
