Welcome to Michael Wawrychuk's Page!
In June 2013 I lost my beloved wife, Sue Deacon to ovarian cancer.
The following winter, a small group of friends and family wanted to do "something" to honour Sue. This tournament at our local rink where we all play, is that "thing".
Sue didn't even start playing hockey until after she was diagnosed. She quickly fell in love with the sport and played as much as her health would allow. Eventually, treatment-induced osteoporosis left Sue fragile and as a result, she suffered several serious broken bones while playing. After her third break a close friend commented, “It’s too bad Sue will have to give up hockey now, she loves it so much.”
To which Sue replied; “Stop playing hockey? Might as well ask me not to breathe.”
It is this unmatched spirit and love for life that inspired us and then and even now. All funds raised will go directly into a newly created Sue Deacon Cancer Research Fund. Thank you for your generous support.
