A Legacy Continues

Cindy Cowan’s Story

Toronto, Ontario
August 27, 2015

Known for their trademark tees, secret-recipe granola, and their fun nicknames; Cindy Cowan’s Team has been walking for HER since 2010. Last year’s team was 26-members strong and all have returned to remember a powerhouse advocate for women’s rights.

Cindy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010. She started a support group and registered her team for the Walk that very same year. But in 2012, Cindy felt too weak to participate in the 5k. In addition to arranging for her round-the-clock care, her friends and supporters stepped up their efforts.

“I promised Cindy that I would carry the torch as team captain,” recalls Frances. “It was very important to me that she knew that what she started would continue. I remember how she smiled that day.”

What a powerful legacy Cindy left behind.

“In remembering her, we know that it’s up to each of us to try harder and harder every day to help someone else,” says Frances.

And her team continues to rise to the challenge. In 2014, they were named Top Team, raising the most funds across the country.
