How do I register as an individual participant?

It’s easy to register online:

  1. Visit the Register page
  2. Select your province/territory
  3. Select your city
  4. Select “Register as an individual”
  5. Click “Register”
  6. Follow the next steps as prompted, and you’re all set

How do I register a team?

How do I bring back a team from a previous year?

Any previous team member can bring back a former team in a few simple steps:

  1. Visit the Register page
  2. Select your province/territory
  3. Select your city
  4. Select “Bring back your former team”
  5. Click “Register”
  6. Sign in as a Returning Supporter
  7. Search the name of your former team and click "Bring team back"
  8. Follow the next steps as prompted, and you’re all set

How do I join a team?

It’s easy to join a team online:

  1. Visit the Register page
  2. Select your province/territory
  3. Select your city

Can I register someone else as I am registering?

As you register yourself for the Walk, select “Register another participant” before completing the registration. From there, you will be able to choose the registration type and enter the personal information for the other participant. Please note, the person(s) you are registering will be registered as a member of your team.

By entering the email address of the person(s) you are registering, they will receive access to a personal page and the Participant Centre. They will receive a notification email to confirm their registration, which will include all necessary information to sign in to their Participant Centre.

What I do not live close to any of the Walk locations?

  1. If you are unable to attend, you can still fundraise and walk at a time and place of your choosing. Simply register to the DIY (Do It Yourself) Walk. Here’s how:
  2. Visit the Register page
  3. Select your province/territory
  4. Select "DIY Walk"
  5. Choose the option that works for you. You can “Register as an individual,” “Start a team,” or “Join a team”
  6. Click “Register”
  7. Follow the next steps as prompted, and you’re all set

Is there a registration fee?

A $25 registration fee applies to participants who are 18 years of age and over.* This helps cover the costs of organizing the Walk so that as much money as possible is directed to help women live fuller, better, longer lives through research, advocacy and support. The amount cannot be refunded and is not eligible for a tax receipt.

*Women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, volunteers and participants aged 17 and under are not required to pay registration fees.

I pledged to raise $150 or more when I registered. What happens if I do not reach this amount by Walk day?

This is currently not an option when registering.

Fundraising by signing in to the Participant Centre

What if I forgot my username or password?

You can retrieve your username or password by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Sign in Page
  2. Click “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password”
  3. Enter the email address you used to register and reset information will be sent to you right away. These messages occasionally end up in spam or junk mail folders, so please be sure to check.

What is the Participant Centre?

Your Participant Centre is where you can:

  • Customize your personal fundraising and team pages by sharing your story and what the Walk means to you
  • Import email contacts and send fundraising, recruitment and thank you emails in a few easy clicks
  • Set your personal and team fundraising goals and track your progress
  • Add offline donations to your fundraising total

If you have registered for the 2020 Walk, you can access your Participant Centre now.

How do I import my email contacts to my Participant Centre?

  1. Sign in to your Participant Centre and go to the “Email” tab
  2. Click “Contacts”
  3. Click “Import Contacts”
  4. Select your email provider and click “Next”
  5. Follow the next steps as prompted, and you’re all set
  6. Sign in to your Participant Centre and choose the “Email” tab
  7. Select “Other,” then “Create your own”
  8. Enter your subject line in the “Subject” field
  9. Write your message
  10. Click “Next” and build your list of recipients. You can enter email addresses manually or select them from your existing contacts
  11. Click “Next” and then click “Send”
  12. Save your message as a template to use it again later

How do I send a fundraising email from my Participant Centre?

If you’d prefer to use a pre-written email:

  1. Sign in to your Participant Centre and choose the “Email” tab
  2. Choose the type of email you’d like to send, then select “Next”
  3. Customize the subject line and body of your message (optional)
  4. Click “Next” and build your list of recipients. You can enter email addresses manually or select them from your existing contacts
  5. Click “Next” and then click “Send”
  6. Save your message as a template to use it again later
  7. Sign in to your Participant Centre and click the “Personal Page” tab
  8. Click “Photos/Videos”
  9. Click “Choose File”
  10. Add a photo or video from your computer, then Click “Open.” Please note that only one photo/video can be uploaded.
  11. Write a caption (optional)
  12. Click “Save”
 

How do I fundraise online?

After you register, sign in to your Participant Centre. From there, you can import your contacts and begin sending emails.

How do I update my fundraising goal?

  • Sign in to your Participant Centre and click the “Progress” tab
  • Click the “Change” button, which is located just below your current goal
  • Enter your new goal and press “Submit”

How do I share my personal page on social media?

One of the easiest ways to get people involved with your fundraising efforts is to promote it via social media. Follow the steps below to share your personal page on social:

  • Sign in to your Participant Centre and click the “Personal Page” tab
  • Select and copy your Personal Page URL
  • On your preferred social media platform, paste the URL into your post and share

Managing donations

What should I do with the cash and cheques I collect?

You can mail your cheques and pledge forms to 205-145 Front Street East, Toronto ON M5A 1E3 Attn: Jesse Wiesblatt. Tax receipts, for donations of $20 or more, will be received by mail no later than February 28 of the following year. 

To enter your offline donations in your Participant Centre, click “Enter offline gift” and fill out the form. Please note that these donations will only count towards your grand total when they are received and verified by Ovarian Cancer Canada. 

How do I enter an offline donation?

Walk participants may receive cash and cheque donations in addition to online donations. Here are a few tips to manage these gifts:

  1. Sign in to your Participant Centre, click the “Enter a new offline gift” button on the sidebar and enter all the available information. Donations entered here will be reflected on your personal page to show your fundraising success.
  2. Download and fill out the pledge form. On the pledge form, please clearly write the donors’ information and all required details. This information is required to provide them with a tax receipt.
    Completed pledge form cheque donations can be mailed to the attention of Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope, 205-145 Front Street East, Toronto, ON, M5A 1E3. Please do not send cash in the mail as it can get lost.

Please note that tax receipts will be issued manually for offline gifts and mailed to donors. Funds generated from hosting an event are not eligible for a tax receipt due to regulations from the Canadian Revenue Agency.

What is the difference between donating to a team and a team member?

There are two ways to donate to a team registered to the Walk. A donation can be made to a team member or directly to the team. Both ways will count towards the overall team total.

  • A donation to a team member will show in the participant’s personal page and Participant Centre personal progress, as well as in the team page and the Team Progress in the Team Captain’s Participant Centre.
  • A donation to a team will show in the team page and the Team Captain’s Participant Centre.

How do you donate?

There are many ways for your friends, family and colleagues to donate to the Walk:

  • Online at ovariancancerwalkofhope.ca
  • By cash or cheque made payable to Ovarian Cancer Canada
    • Cheques can be mailed to Ovarian Cancer Canada at 205-145 Front St. East, Toronto, ON M5A 1E3 Attn: Jesse Wiesblatt
    • These donations should be listed on a pledge form for receipting purposes.
    • By calling Jesse Wiesblatt, National Walk Associate, at 1-877-413-7970 extension 236

Do all donors receive tax receipts?

Charitable tax receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more.

  • Online donors receive electronic tax receipts as soon as their donations are processed. These emails can get caught in spam or junk folders, so please check that they haven’t been marked incorrectly by your email provider. If you do not receive an electronic tax receipts within 48 hours, please email Jesse Wiesblatt at jwiesblatt@ovariancanada.org
  • Those donating by cash or cheque will receive mailed receipts by February 28 of the following year. 

Why wasn’t my credit card accepted?

Please check that the credit card number, expiry date, and cardholder name are entered exactly as they appear on the card. Kindly note that Visa Debit is not accepted online or on the pledge forms.

I received donations in conjunction with a matching gift. Will they count as double on my fundraising page?

While matching gifts double the impact of eligible donations, they are not necessarily reflected in your individual or team fundraising totals. Unless otherwise stated, matching gifts are tallied as part of the grand total raised by Walk participants.

How do I get a hat?

All Walk participants will recieve a buff on Walk day.

How do I get a teal t-shirt?

Teal t-shirts are to recognize women with ovarian cancer. 

Day of the event

When and where?

Walk your way and walk for her -- the 2020 Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope has no boundaries; it’s virtual! Here’s the plan for Walk Day:

9 a.m. – Head to the Facebook event page for your Walk and tune into the warm-up and Walk Day kick-off! Videos will be broadcast featuring your Ovarian Cancer Canada Regional Director, committee members, Teal Sisters, and others.

10 a.m. – Lace up, don your teal with pride, and walk your route. Create posters and signs to let other people know why you’re walking! When you’re on route, take pictures and share them on social media using the official Walk hashtag #WalkofHope. Remember, it doesn’t matter where you walk, it’s why you walk!

11 a.m. – Take a well-deserved break. You earned it!

12 p.m. PDT / 3 p.m. EDT – Tune in for the closing ceremonies on Facebook Live and this website! These closing ceremonies will feature some familiar Walk favourites and some new additions – you'll have front row seats to exclusive musical performances, speeches, awards and more. And there may even be a few surprises!

Please follow the guidelines set by your province to ensure a safe and successful Walk Day experience.

Is the Walk accessible for wheelchairs, scooters and strollers?
